2008 "The Year of the Church"
Greetings,
This message is on target to every Christian that is praying to be guided by God when casting their votes in local, State elections in 2007 and for the Presidential election in 2008:
As Thanksgiving and Christmas times approach Christians should pause and be reflecting in the blessings the Lord had given us during 2007 and also start looking forward to His blessings for 2008…
Here is a very thoughtful devotional from Dr. Larry Ollison that all should read and prayerfully consider:
2008 "The Year of the Church" by Dr. Larry Ollison
A few weeks ago while spending time with the Lord, I had this question on my heart. "What are Your plans for me and for my ministry?" From deep within my spirit I heard these words. "This coming year will be the year of the church."
My first question was this. "What does it mean that 2008 will be the year of the church?" The church was here this year and last year. In fact, the church has been on the Earth every year since the time Jesus put His blood on the Mercy Seat. When Jesus became the first fruits into the Kingdom and became the firstborn among many brethren, the church was established. Jesus then took His position as the head of the church and all who received Him became a part of His body. The church has existed for centuries, so what does it mean "2008 is the year of the church?"
Over the last few weeks I have meditated on this and God has spoken clearly to my heart. As for me and those who attend my church and receive from this ministry, 2008 is the year for every member of the church to stand up and be the church. The time that once was future is now here. We are truly living in the last moments of the last days. We are the generation that will usher in the return of the Messiah. The waiting is over and the time is at hand for the church to stand up and operate in the power and authority that was prophesied by Jesus.
* 2008 is the Year for the Church to Stand Up and Be the Church
It is time for the church to quit being "seeker friendly" and become "Holy Spirit friendly." When the world looks at Christians, they should see the light shining in such a way that they are drawn to a loving God instead of being drawn to God’s stuff. While it is true that God wants to prosper every believer physically and financially, the gift should not receive more glory than the giver.
Jesus told us that Christians were to be fishers of men, but a BMW or a Mercedes should not be the bait on the hook. Now don’t take me wrong. There is nothing wrong with owning a BMW or a Mercedes. Personally, a silver BMW Z-4 is a beautiful car and there is nothing wrong with having one. If you see one in the Pastor’s parking spot at church, it’s okay. God doesn’t mind. However, the motivation of Jesus being pierced with nails and dying on the cross was not so you could have a new BMW and it shouldn’t be your motivation for spreading the gospel either. We should attract people to a loving God in such a way that they will love Him more than His stuff.
Many people in the church are hurting, offended, and bitter. I heard a man say last week that life had been bad to him. While it may be true that the world has treated him poorly, God is a good God and His plan is full of goodness.
It’s time for the church to get over bitterness, discouragement, depression, and fear of people. This is the year the church must take a stand and proclaim the Word to the world with strength and authority.
Psalm 119:165 says, "Great peace have they which love Thy law and nothing shall offend them." The church must quit talking about what the world has done to them and start talking about what God has done for them. This is the time, this is the year for the church to stand up and be the church.
While in Old Jerusalem, a storekeeper told me that Christians often leave tracts in his store hoping that he will find them and receive Jesus. He made an interesting statement to me. He said, "Instead of Christians leaving a tract, they should become a living tract, and then being a Christian would be attract-ive."
It’s time for Christians to quit talking about what they are in the world and be who they are to the world.
* 2008 is the Year the Church Walks in Correction
As a pastor, I have discovered that people enjoy coming to me for advice and they accept it as long as the answer is what they want to hear. We must develop the ministry of receiving the word "no." To hear quickly, and to be obedient without question makes one usable to God.
Over the years I’ve had many approach me about their call into the ministry. There are those who truly will do whatever God calls them to do, but there are also many who will only answer the call if it involves a platform, podium, microphone, and cameras. There is nothing wrong with being famous. The Bible says that Jesus’ fame spread throughout the country and multitudes came to hear him. Jesus didn’t seek fame, but used it as a tool. Likewise, fame should never be a ministry goal.
In order for the church to be the church, Christians must be obedient to every word and not just to the ones they want to receive. We must go where He tells us to go, or stay where He tells us to stay without regard to fame or fortune. The Blessing will chase you down and catch you, but The Blessing only travels on the street named Obedience.
God’s Word may be served on a table, but it’s not a smorgasbord. There are desserts, but you must also eat the vegetables.
My wife, Loretta, is devoted to prayer. Privately she spends time in prayer, but also hosts several prayer sessions each week. I recently heard someone say that they were not going to prayer because they didn’t get a lot out of prayer meetings. It reminded me of the time that a couple met me in my office to inform me that they were no longer going to work with children because no one appreciated what they were doing.
When did appreciation become the motivation for ministry? When did we start judging prayer by how much we got out of it? Much of the focus has been wrong and needs to be corrected.
We were created to worship Him. When we pray, we pray to the Father. If talking to the Father does not bring satisfaction, then an adjustment needs to be made and it’s not the Father that needs to be adjusted. 2008 is the year the church walks in correction.
2008 is the Year the Church Must Obey Without Hesitation
The church has been commanded to "go ye therefore and make disciples." Whether or not you feel appreciated while doing it, is irrelevant. It’s a command. Imagine how an army would function during a time of war if each soldier decided himself whether or not he was going to obey the commands of the General on the basis of how appreciated he felt. The war would be lost. That is one of the basic problems that has developed in the church. We must obey our commands without hesitation.
Many times a statement that sounds good, if carried to the extreme, can be harmful. A lady told me once that she couldn’t teach the children because she needed to be sitting in adult church where the pastor put the food on the table. While this is a good concept, the reality is this. If everybody is sitting at the table and nobody is in the kitchen, everyone starves. In order to eat, we must all take our turn in the kitchen.
While in the heart of God, it is true that it’s all about us, in our hearts we should have the attitude that it’s all about Him. The church must have the right perspective and have its priorities in order. Although we receive when we come to God’s house, our hearts should be the heart of a servant and we should come to give worship to God and minister to others.
Many churches are looking for revival within their own building. They have become frustrated over the years trying to obtain it because the real heart of revival is ministering to someone else. The church should overflow into the world instead of attempting to overflow back onto itself over and over. True satisfaction and accomplishment in the heart of a believer is when they see the Word flowing out of themselves and into the lives of hurting people and seeing those hurting lives becoming fruitful and abundant in all things.
* 2008 is the Year the Church Must Cleanse Itself of the World
2008 is the year for the church to stand in honesty, character, and integrity. In today’s society, I have seen a disturbing trend. People are accustomed to being tantalized, mesmerized, and sensationalized and this has been brought into the church. While I truly believe that worship services should promote excellence in music and teaching and that musicians should practice and rehearse in order to promote excellence in worship, I have noticed that some church services are such choreographed, theatrical, made-for-television performances, that there is little difference between church and the half-time show at the Super Bowl (without the fireworks).
A minister recently indicated to me that he was unable to allow the gifts of the Holy Spirit to operate in his church service because there was no way that it would fit into his television programming.
It’s sad when we allow directors to eliminate the move of the Spirit from our worship services. It’s robbing God of His opportunity to speak intimately with His children. This is the year the church must cleanse itself of the world and worship the Father in spirit and in truth.
When I told a minister at a ministers’ conference that I had sold my airplane, he said, "But what about your image? Don’t you know that not having an airplane will affect the image of your ministry?" We must get over this crazy thinking and realize that ministry is not about the building of our image.
* 2008 is the Year for the Sleeping Giant to Awake
Sometimes I feel like the church has been lulled into a deep sleep. Twenty years ago there were things we would not allow in our homes that today we are using to babysit our children. But this is the year for the sleeping giant to awake.
It has been estimated that there are over 75 million evangelical Christians in America alone. If we could unite as one body in agreement with the Word of God as our guide, nothing could stop us.
While the world may wax worse and become more deceived, the church should become brighter and brighter until we shine the Gospel into all the world.
* 2008 is the Time for the Church to Be All That Jesus Prophesied it Would Be
There is so much more that God is speaking in these last moments of the last days. When my grandmother was a teenager, she saw her first automobile. During all of her youth she traveled by way of horse and wagon. Before she passed away, she saw astronauts go into outer space and men walk on the moon. From the creation of man through six thousand years, man traveled with the assistance of animals. In one generation that changed. The scriptures tell us that in the last days knowledge will increase. We are truly in the last days.
The prophetic times spoken by our Lord and Savior, Jesus, are upon us. The time of waiting is behind and the time of action is at hand. It’s time for the church to stand up and be all that Jesus prophesied the church would be.

Christians in politics should know "The 4 G's" -specially in their relations to constituents and other politicians!
Greetings,
I would like to share with you what the Lord recalled to my mind from a class I attended years ago on Preparation for Ministry that the teacher called "The 4 G" -
GLORY - never touch the anointing of God's manifestations through your ministry - do not sin by letting spirit of pride grip you for what the Lord is doing using you to minister to others, remember that after all He used a donkey at one time!
GOLD - never do anything in ministry because of financial gain or leadership gain
GUYS (for the ladies) / GALLS (for guys) - live a godly life unto the Lord -stay away from compromising situations the devil could pervert... when that happens to be quick to repent and dust off and continue in ministry wiser and more careful...
GOOFY DOCTRINE - (Also can be called 'Stinking thinking') - always check in to see that what we believe and tell others is rightly dividing the Word of Truth and not any man-made reasoning or religious tradition no matter how we agree with it and how popular the leader and the teaching is.
I know is a reason that the Lord is bringing me into remembering now this teaching. Praise the Lord!

Who is the Seed of the Serpent? - The answer is one of the most important spiritual principles in the Kingdom of God.

Specially Christian voters should be wise voters by applying this principle to discern truth, lies, distortion, spin and covert and overt try to manipulate and sway their votes in these important coming elections!
Who is the Seed of the Serpent? by Dr. Larry Ollison
Several years ago I was doing a Bible study on the Book of Genesis. Creation is a very interesting subject to teach. The Bible tells us that through the sin of one man, sin was brought into the world, and through the sacrifice of the Son of Man, sin was defeated. It’s interesting that when Adam sinned he blamed the woman but also blamed God because God gave her to him. When God asked the woman why she had done what she did, she blamed the serpent.
So in Genesis 3 we find where the Lord God spoke to the serpent. He said, “Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field; on your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed” (Genesis 3:14-15).
You’ll notice that that the reference to the Seed of the woman is capitalized. That’s because it is understood that Jesus is the Seed. After I taught that the Seed of the woman was Jesus, a young girl asked me a very interesting question. The question was, “If Jesus is called the Seed of the woman because He is her descendant, then who is the seed of the serpent? Who is his descendant?”
The answer to this question is one of the most important spiritual principles in the Kingdom of God. I could spend days explaining the answer. But briefly, let me say this. In Mark chapter 4, Jesus tells the parable of a man who sows seed. Then, in verse 13 Jesus said that in order to understand any parable or to understand the mystery of the Kingdom of God and the principles on which it operates, you must understand the parable of the sower. He said that to the world it would be a mystery but to those who are on the inside it will be revealed. Then in verse 14 He begins to unveil the mystery of the Kingdom and how it operates. He said, “The sower sows the Word.”
If it is true that the Word is represented as seed, then we could say that the Seed of the woman is the Word of God. While it is also true that the Seed of the woman in Genesis 3:15 is referring to the person of Jesus, we find in John chapter 1 where it states clearly that Jesus is the Word.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. (John 1:1-3)
Then in verse 14 we find that the Word became flesh and dwelt among mankind. Jesus is definitely the Word and He was in the beginning with God.
The word enmity means hostility and contention. God said there would be enmity between the Seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent. There has been and there is a war taking place in the mind. That war is between the Word of God and the words of the serpent, between the Seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent.
The Bible tells us that when the seed (words) of the enemy is sown into our thought realm that we are to cast them down and reject them. But when the Seed (Word of God) is sown into our minds, that we are to meditate on it and receive it into our heart.
Jesus said that out of the abundance of our heart our mouth would speak. So if we meditate and receive the Word of God, we will speak the Word of God and that will activate the promises of God in our lives.
The war is everywhere – in the world, in the church, and in your mind. The words of the world continually are warring against the Word of God. You must choose which seed you will keep and what seed you will reject. The seed you nurture will grow and become strong in your heart. Out of the abundance of your heart, your mouth will speak and you will harvest your words.

GOD NEVER CHANGES HIS WORD AND WILL - OUR WORDS AND WILL SHOULD NEVER CHANGE: WE HAVE A CHOICE TO MAKE!
Greetings
when I received this one around the time I received a friend's email on God's will and words and our will and words I know that we need to chew on it until what we speak aligns with God's Word and Will and NOT 'the facts of life' we are living... this is the hardest thing that we can ever do... but is the will... our will that will decide to follow God or to let the devil keep kicking us from altar to post... OUR CHOICE TO MAKE!!!
So, here is another one on our words and the power of what we say outloud:
*** "Speak Life" by Dr. Larry Ollison
What you say is important. In fact, the words that come from your mouth today shape your world tomorrow. Your words can bring prosperity and health or they can bring poverty and death. According to the Bible, the words you speak can and will shape your life.
Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
It is true. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. What you say is important. In fact, what you say is so important that much of the Bible is devoted to teaching us what to say.
In the book of James in chapter 3, the Bible compares the tongue to the rudder of a large ship. Although a ship may be large and driven by fierce winds, it is turned by a very small rudder. This is the way the tongue is. It may be a small part of your body, but what you say with your mouth can enhance or destroy your life.
Most Christians have no idea how their words are affecting their lives. Words can either be words of faith – words that confirm the Word of God, or words of doubt – words that destroy faith. The choice is yours. Your mouth is connected to your head, not someone else’s. You have no one to blame for what you say other than yourself. Think of it this way. Your life and your death are in the power of your tongue.
Jesus said in Mark 11:23 “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, be removed and be cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart but believes that those things he says will come to pass, he will have whatever he says.”
Jesus said to say to the mountain, “be cast into the sea.” He didn’t say think to the mountain. He didn’t say believe in your heart and that will be enough. He said to believe in your heart and say with your mouth and then you will see the mountain moved.
In Romans 10:9 the Bible says, “If you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Notice it says that we are to confess Jesus with our mouth. It doesn’t say to think in our minds. It says to confess with your mouth, in other words, say with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.
Think of your words as containers. When they are released from your mouth, they contain faith or they contain doubt.
Proverbs 6:2 says we are snared by the words of our mouth. This simply means that you are responsible for your words. You have a choice. With your words you can curse or you can bless.
You may ask, “Then what should I say?” The answer is speak words of faith. Speak words that align with the Word of God. Say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Say, “Jesus is Lord and Satan is defeated.” Say, “He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.” Quote the Word.
Remember, Proverbs 18:21 says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”
Some people say they can’t help what they say. That’s not true. You can control your words. The choice is yours. Will you speak words of faith or will you speak words of doubt?
Your life and your death are in the power of your tongue. Speak life.

QUESTIONS ON SICKNESS AND HEALTH: Why a Christian get sick? Why God sent Jesus to heal the sick?
Greetings,
This is an important question for everyone working to make a living, working to have their own successful home-business, to enjoy their families, to enjoy their lives... and it is most important for Christians and Christians fulfilling God's call to ministry (every born again Christian is called to witness of Jesus death on the Cross for everyone to be reconciled to God – that God is not angry at anyone anymore and that through Jesus we can become His children as a family… also a few ministers are also called to minister in the 5-fold ministries as pastors/elders, teachers, evangelists and such) that are battling sickness, pains, aches and all kind of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances - for sure we are under attack but not from God... He is not playing cruel games with His children... Jesus did not died in Calvary for us to live a defeated Christian life... we need to find answers to be able to minister His life and health to souls questioning God in the face of a crippled ministering army of sick Christians... we do need help from above!
Having my own personal memories of a sickly child and as an adult –even as a born-again child of God - prompt me to read Christian articles such as this from Dr. Larry Ollison on source of sickness and what God’s will for a Christian is to live in His health – prayerfully read on before you shut your mind to God’s rightly divided Word!
Understanding the Source of Sickness by Larry Ollison, Ph.D.
Once a man told my wife he was sick and he knew God had made him that way. His reasoning was this. He said God had given him stomach problems so he wouldn’t eat too much and gain weight. He reasoned if he gained weight, he would develop a heart problem and could die. So, in order to keep from dying of a heart problem, he reasoned, God had made him sick so he couldn’t eat and get fat.
This may sound strange, but unfortunately, many Christians believe that God makes them sick for a purpose.
It is true that God can and will cause all things to work together for good for those who love Him and who seek Him by the Spirit. The Bible tells us that in Romans 8:26-28. However, God’s Word does not say that God causes bad things. It simply says He causes them to work together for good for those who love Him and those who are the called according to His purpose.
We must understand the root sources of healing and sickness. The One who heals us does not make us sick and the one who makes us sick does not make us well. We must discern “right thinking” from “wrong thinking.” We must quit blaming God for the works of Satan.
Let’s examine the truth. What does the Bible say about God’s view of sickness?
In Psalm 103:3 it says that He is the One “who heals all our diseases.”
Matthew 4:2 says, “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.”
In Matthew 2:24 it says, “Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.”
Matthew 8:16 says, “When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick.”
Matthew 9:35 “Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.”
Matthew 10:1 “And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.”
Matthew 12:15 “But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there. And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all.”
Matthew 19:2 “And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there.”
Everywhere Jesus went, He healed people. Let’s look at what He said. In John chapter five Jesus said that He didn’t do anything unless God His Father instructed Him to. So, what does that tell us about God? It tells us that He wants us well and He wants to heal us.
Jesus said He came to earth to destroy the works of the devil. He said in John 10:10, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
Who is the thief that steals health, kills bodies and destroys life with sickness? The devil.
Who gives life? Jesus.

SEVEN KEYS TO A LIFE OF PEACE!
Greetings,
Most of us get sidetracked at times in the day to day battle of staying focuses in Basic Bible Truths as we try to live as obedient children of our Heavenly Father following the example of our older brother that is also our God almighty and our personal Lord and Savior – the Lord Jesus Christ… so I am glad that the Lord put in our paths at the right moment His reminder to continue the walk without going off into tangents and without giving up:
Seven Keys to a Life of Peace by Larry Ollison, Ph.D.
"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 5:1).
I understand that formulas and step plans are not always the answer to the problems we have in life. But sometimes they can define and illuminate issues. With that in mind, I’d like to give you seven keys to a life of peace.
1) You must know who you are
As a Christian you must know that you were made righteous at the moment you became a Christian and you must know that it was the blood of Jesus that cleansed you from all the unrighteousness in your life. Unless you know who you are, you are susceptible to the lies of Satan. He tries to confuse and make you think you are weak. Jesus said, "You are the light of the world."
2) You must know what the world is
You must be able to clearly define the difference between right and wrong. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 2:11 that we should not be ignorant of the devil’s devises. Otherwise, he could take advantage of us. John 10:10 clearly defines the source of good and evil.
3) You must know what your goal is
You must be consistent with your personality. You must be consistent with your vision. And you cannot waver as you head toward the calling that God has placed on your life. The only way you lose is if you give up.
4) You must not compromise your life
Compromise for the Christian is the kiss of death to your testimony. The world will sit quietly by as you do the work of the ministry, but will leap to their feet and point their fingers if you compromise.
5) You must always be in faith
Walking in faith will make you fearless. You must walk in victory and faith is the key.
6) Forgive and love
Faith will not work without love and love will not function without forgiveness. Forgiveness doesn’t mean compromise or condoning an evil act.
7) You must acknowledge what Jesus has done and rest in His work
In John 16:33 Jesus said, "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." Since Jesus has overcome the world, we can rest in peace with His victory.

Compromise for the Christian is the kiss of death to your testimony. The world will sit quietly by as you do the work of the ministry, but will leap to their feet and point their fingers if you compromise.
5) You must always be in faith
Walking in faith will make you fearless. You must walk in victory and faith is the key.
6) Forgive and love
Faith will not work without love and love will not function without forgiveness. Forgiveness doesn’t mean compromise or condoning an evil act.
7) You must acknowledge what Jesus has done and rest in His work
In John 16:33 Jesus said, "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." Since Jesus has overcome the world, we can rest in peace with His victory.

How Do I Know If It's God? by Dr. Larry Ollison
For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. (1 Corinthians 14:33)
As a pastor, I continually have people bringing problems and circumstances to me for counsel. Usually, after they have taken some time to explain the situation, they will give the solution that they feel they have for the problem. Then they look at me and say, “Is that what I am supposed to do? Do you think God gave me this answer? How can I know if I heard from God or could it be the devil trying to trick me?”
The answer here actually is quite simple. Follow peace. Over the years I have discovered that God always works through love, goodness, and peace.
When Loretta and I were first married, a man approached me about buying into an oil well. I was so excited. I had plans of being an oil tycoon. I read about oil. I studied about the oil industry. Only two things stood between me and the investment -- money and Loretta. Something didn’t seem right deep inside, but the mental thrill of being a millionaire overpowered me.
I sold my new Camaro and talked Loretta into allowing me to make this venture. In a few short months, the oil man left town with my money and I was faced with two major tasks. First, I had to swallow my pride and ask Loretta and God to forgive me. Secondly, I had to buy another car because I had no transportation.
All of this could have been resolved if I would have just allowed myself to have been led by the Spirit and followed peace. Instead, I was head-lead and ended up being a “lead head.” I learned my lesson.
So the next time you are wondering if something is God or not, ask yourself these questions. “Do I feel inner peace and I am I being led by the Spirit?” If you can answer these questions honestly, you have your answer.
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).

By now everyone knows the news of a non-political figure is 'tossing her hat in the ring' to run in 2008... but not for president.. but against Speaker Nanci Pelosi... her name is Sheehan. Cindi Sheehan. She says: "I'm doing it to encourage other people to run against Congress members who aren't doing their jobs, who are beholden to special interests," Sheehan said.

What is the "Nine Nineties in Nine" Pledge?
If you believe, as I do, that there is an opportunity for a better political dialogue now and in 2008, then I need your help. I issued a challenge at Cooper Union to those who are running for president asking them to take a pledge which can be summarized as follows.
"If I receive my party's nomination for President of the United States, I pledge to participate in nine, ninety-minute dialogues in the nine weeks before the general election with my opponent. In the Lincoln-Douglas style, I will agree to debate my opponent with only a time-keeper, and to insist upon no rules. I understand it will be just me and my solutions and my opponent with theirs."
One Candidate Takes the Nine Nineties in Nine Challenge -- Who Will be Next?
I was walking in mid-town Manhattan near 44th and 6th Ave. on my way to pre-tape an interview with Dr. Jim Dobson for Focus on the Family. Someone from behind tapped me on my shoulder and asked me for my autograph. Reaching for my pen, I turned around and who was standing there with his famous Big Apple smile but the former Mayor himself, Rudy Giuliani. In the middle of the sidewalk we spoke for 10 minutes and them something wonderful happened. After I told him about the pledge challenge we were about to issue at Cooper Union that night, without missing a beat, he readily agreed to the challenge.
So who will be the next to take the Nine Nineties in Nine Pledge? You can help every candidate to accept by writing their offices, calling talk radio or asking them personally. If enough voters insist upon substance and civility in the next eighteen months, then candidates will have no choice but to tell their consultants "No" and tell Americans "YES", there is a better way.

Nine Nineties in Nine
You'll never guess who asked for my autograph last week? The answer in a bit, but first I want to report on the event that I hope will help change the political discourse in America for the 2008 campaign.
Lincoln's Inspiration at Cooper Union
Regular readers of Winning the Future will know that last Wednesday evening, New York's former Democratic Governor Mario Cuomo and I appeared together at historic Cooper Union in New York City, the site where Abraham Lincoln delivered the speech that arguably made him President. Cooper Union is situated on the edge of Manhattan's East Village. Those familiar with New York City know that being a conservative in the East Village is about as lonely as one can be. Hundreds waited in line outside the Great Hall for hours to get in. By 6:30 p.m, the 900 seats were full.
We came to Cooper Union for one reason -- to demonstrate that it was possible for leaders from opposing political parties to have a thoughtful and civilized conversation about the future of America. We wrote about it in the New York Sun. You can read it here. And that it could be done without the long list of rules political consultants insist upon. In fact, there were no rules. We each spoke for 30 minutes. Then, Tim Russert from NBC News posed challenging questions to each of us which produced a substantive issue-driven exchange.
Speaking as a conservative, I am happy to report that it is possible to go into the heart of a liberal stronghold with conservative solutions and be well received. But, there are also tremendous benefits in doing so. Here's why.
We have all become used to candidates appearing at events where the audience is made up of ideologically sympathetic supporters. Most candidates for president know all too well how to get cheers of approval from their bases with well delivered poll-tested partisan talking points. However, it would be a different situation entirely if candidates had to consistently appear in front of people who are not inclined to be in agreement with them. Add to that, someone from the other party who will challenge their positions, then add to that someone from the media who knows how to cut through the rhetoric. Now, that is a much more substantial challenge and one likely to produce a much better quality of meaningful dialogue about how to meet the many challenges facing the country.
Such a level of meaningful exchange is critical to our democratic process. First and most importantly, it requires candidates to know what they stand for. A candidate must know more than talking points; he or she must know the substance of the material. They must be able to draw on historical parallels to support their arguments. They must know the audience and understand something about their worldview in order to relate to them. Candidates must be clear. They must provide real solutions to our challenges. But even all of that is not nearly enough. They must persuade.
Persuasion is what counts in a free society. If you cannot persuade, you cannot succeed in solving America's challenges because in the end, the American people must support your solutions or nothing can get done. It's time for a new model.
Governor Cuomo and I set out to demonstrate that two political leaders with dramatically different political perspectives can have a constructive, intelligent, free-wheeling dialogue about America without degenerating into petty partisan political point scoring where no one is persuaded.
We wanted to contrast our lively exchange with the rule-driven, consultant-strangled "debates" we've seen in the past few campaign cycles, in which campaign consultants maximize candidate choreography while minimizing the possibility of an informative, challenging debate.
Governor Cuomo and I believe that the Cooper Union model is good for America. I believe it will produce a much richer dialogue, more informed and better candidates, will encourage solutions and substance, and perhaps most significantly, will reengage millions of Americans to become active participants in America's future but who are today turned off by the trivial shallowness of the current political process.
The "Nine Nineties in Nine" Pledge

Since I am NOT a Newt Gingrich kind of person, is unusual that I even opened and read his email today… BUT I like his idea of the “Nine Nineties in Nine” Pledge for the 2008 Elections… read on!
What is the "Nine Nineties in Nine" Pledge?
If you believe, as I do, that there is an opportunity for a better political dialogue now and in 2008, then I need your help. I issued a challenge at Cooper Union to those who are running for president asking them to take a pledge which can be summarized as follows.
"If I receive my party's nomination for President of the United States, I pledge to participate in nine, ninety-minute dialogues in the nine weeks before the general election with my opponent. In the Lincoln-Douglas style, I will agree to debate my opponent with only a time-keeper, and to insist upon no rules. I understand it will be just me and my solutions and my opponent with theirs."
One Candidate Takes the Nine Nineties in Nine Challenge -- Who Will be Next?
I was walking in mid-town Manhattan near 44th and 6th Ave. on my way to pre-tape an interview with Dr. Jim Dobson for Focus on the Family. Someone from behind tapped me on my shoulder and asked me for my autograph. Reaching for my pen, I turned around and who was standing there with his famous Big Apple smile but the former Mayor himself, Rudy Giuliani. In the middle of the sidewalk we spoke for 10 minutes and them something wonderful happened. After I told him about the pledge challenge we were about to issue at Cooper Union that night, without missing a beat, he readily agreed to the challenge.
So who will be the next to take the Nine Nineties in Nine Pledge? You can help every candidate to accept by writing their offices, calling talk radio or asking them personally. If enough voters insist upon substance and civility in the next eighteen months, then candidates will have no choice but to tell their consultants "No" and tell Americans "YES", there is a better way.
I believe we succeeded in providing one model to improve the 2008 campaign. I think those in attendance on Wednesday night would agree. But I'll leave it up to you to decide. You can watch the entire event on the web at www.americansolutions.com

Nine Nineties in Nine
You'll never guess who asked for my autograph last week? The answer in a bit, but first I want to report on the event that I hope will help change the political discourse in America for the 2008 campaign.
Lincoln's Inspiration at Cooper Union
Regular readers of Winning the Future will know that last Wednesday evening, New York's former Democratic Governor Mario Cuomo and I appeared together at historic Cooper Union in New York City, the site where Abraham Lincoln delivered the speech that arguably made him President. Cooper Union is situated on the edge of Manhattan's East Village. Those familiar with New York City know that being a conservative in the East Village is about as lonely as one can be. Hundreds waited in line outside the Great Hall for hours to get in. By 6:30 p.m, the 900 seats were full.
We came to Cooper Union for one reason -- to demonstrate that it was possible for leaders from opposing political parties to have a thoughtful and civilized conversation about the future of America. We wrote about it in the New York Sun. You can read it here. And that it could be done without the long list of rules political consultants insist upon. In fact, there were no rules. We each spoke for 30 minutes. Then, Tim Russert from NBC News posed challenging questions to each of us which produced a substantive issue-driven exchange.
Speaking as a conservative, I am happy to report that it is possible to go into the heart of a liberal stronghold with conservative solutions and be well received. But, there are also tremendous benefits in doing so. Here's why.
We have all become used to candidates appearing at events where the audience is made up of ideologically sympathetic supporters. Most candidates for president know all too well how to get cheers of approval from their bases with well delivered poll-tested partisan talking points. However, it would be a different situation entirely if candidates had to consistently appear in front of people who are not inclined to be in agreement with them. Add to that, someone from the other party who will challenge their positions, then add to that someone from the media who knows how to cut through the rhetoric. Now, that is a much more substantial challenge and one likely to produce a much better quality of meaningful dialogue about how to meet the many challenges facing the country.
Such a level of meaningful exchange is critical to our democratic process. First and most importantly, it requires candidates to know what they stand for. A candidate must know more than talking points; he or she must know the substance of the material. They must be able to draw on historical parallels to support their arguments. They must know the audience and understand something about their worldview in order to relate to them. Candidates must be clear. They must provide real solutions to our challenges. But even all of that is not nearly enough. They must persuade.
Persuasion is what counts in a free society. If you cannot persuade, you cannot succeed in solving America's challenges because in the end, the American people must support your solutions or nothing can get done. It's time for a new model.
Governor Cuomo and I set out to demonstrate that two political leaders with dramatically different political perspectives can have a constructive, intelligent, free-wheeling dialogue about America without degenerating into petty partisan political point scoring where no one is persuaded.
We wanted to contrast our lively exchange with the rule-driven, consultant-strangled "debates" we've seen in the past few campaign cycles, in which campaign consultants maximize candidate choreography while minimizing the possibility of an informative, challenging debate.
Governor Cuomo and I believe that the Cooper Union model is good for America. I believe it will produce a much richer dialogue, more informed and better candidates, will encourage solutions and substance, and perhaps most significantly, will reengage millions of Americans to become active participants in America's future but who are today turned off by the trivial shallowness of the current political process.
The "Nine Nineties in Nine" Pledge

Americans deserve the chance to see the candidates in an unfiltered dialogue. They deserve to be persuaded with solutions that stem from core beliefs. Most of all, they deserve a presidential election process worthy of choosing the man or woman who will occupy the Oval Office and assume the mantle of leader of the free world.

2008 ELECTIONS: Dem. Sen. Barack Obama run for President 'in his own words'
Wise Voters need to start sifting through the tweaks and hypes of all the rhetorics of political candidates to have a clear idea of who the best candidate is for their vote and to vote in the 2008 election with conviction and peace of mind.
